Drip Check: why we collect artists who melt, drip and glow

Drip tufting is the technique and style of Jan Fechner, co-founder of BUBU Studio: wool gradients built thread by thread, melting forms, colour that runs into the next shade. It is his own creation, not something we teach in the workshops. But it changed how we look at colour, and somewhere along the way we started collecting artists who work the same way, in paint, ceramics, glass, resin, textiles.
The list has grown to more than fifty names. Starting this week we share one of them every week.
What a Drip Check is
Each edition looks at one artist. Not a biography, not a review. A maker’s look at a maker: what we see in the work, which colour decisions we would steal for a rug, and where the connection to Jan Fechner’s drip tufting is.
Why it matters for a workshop studio
Most people who come to our tufting workshops in Paphos arrive with a motif on their phone and leave with a rug they made themselves. In between, the hardest part is choosing colours. The artists in this series are the best teachers for that. They show that a gradient can be loud, that two colours can fight and still belong together, and that the edge of a shape is a decision.
If you want to try that with yarn in your hands, the next workshop dates are on the booking page.
